Outback Armour Rear Shock Stone Shield Kit - OASU3720004

A typical suspension upgrade may include:

• Coil springs or leaf springs

• Shock absorbers

• Bushings and mounting hardware

Higher-end or complete kits may also include:

• Upper control arms

• Adjustable components

• Extended brake lines

Each component works together to improve ride quality, load handling and off-road performance.

Suspension lifespan depends on usage and conditions.

Typical lifespan:

• 40,000–80,000 km under normal use

• Less in harsh off-road conditions

Factors affecting lifespan:

• Load weight

• Terrain (corrugations, off-road)

• Driving style

Regular inspections help identify wear early.

Yes — a wheel alignment is essential after any suspension upgrade.

Lifting a vehicle changes:

• Camber

• Caster

• Toe angles

A proper alignment ensures:

• Correct tyre wear

• Stable handling

• Safe driving performance

While some experienced DIYers can install suspension, professional installation is strongly recommended.

Reasons include:

• Safety-critical components

• Correct torque settings

• Proper alignment required after installation

Incorrect installation can lead to poor handling, premature wear or component failure.

Yes — in a positive way when done correctly.

Upgraded suspension improves:

• Load handling

• Vehicle stability

• Reduced rear sag when towing

For towing setups, rear springs are often selected specifically to handle tow ball weight and prevent excessive squat.

A GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) upgrade may be required if your fully loaded vehicle exceeds its legal weight limit.

This is common when adding:

• Bull bars and winches

• Canopies and drawer systems

• Roof loads and towing setups

A GVM upgrade increases your legal carrying capacity but must be engineered and certified to remain road legal.

Spring rates determine how much weight the suspension is designed to carry:

• Light duty: Minimal accessories, daily driving focus

• Medium duty: Bull bar, roof racks, occasional loads

• Heavy duty: Constant load (canopy, drawers, tools, long-range tanks)

Running springs that are too heavy for your setup can result in a harsh ride, while springs that are too light will sag and reduce performance.

The correct suspension setup depends on how your vehicle is used and what accessories are fitted.

Key factors include:

• Constant load (bull bar, winch, canopy, drawers)

• Occasional load (tools, camping gear, towing)

• Intended use (daily driving, touring, off-road)

Suspension is designed around weight. If your vehicle carries constant accessories, you’ll need heavier-rated springs to maintain ride height and control. If your vehicle runs light most of the time, a medium setup will provide better comfort and compliance.

Most 4WD suspension upgrades provide 40–50mm of lift, which is ideal for:

• Improved ground clearance

• Better approach and departure angles

• Clearance for slightly larger tyres

In Australia, lift limits are regulated, and going beyond ~50mm may require engineering approval. More lift does not always mean better performance — suspension geometry, ride quality and reliability must all be considered.

In most cases, yes — when matched correctly to the vehicle’s weight.

Factory suspension is a compromise. Upgraded suspension is designed to:

• Better control added weight

• Reduce body roll

• Improve stability when towing or loaded

However, heavier-duty springs can feel firmer when the vehicle is empty. Choosing the correct spring rate is critical to balancing comfort and performance.

Piranha and Bluemax suspension systems are engineered for durability and supported by a 3-year or 60,000km warranty, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.
